Publications focus on Pentecostalism
This week in The Pew Forum: Publications focus on Pentecostalism
Pentecostalism continues to make headlines as leading publications turn their attention to this fast-growing segment of Christianity. The New York Times published a three-part series this week on New York City pentecostals. The Economist observed in a December article that while the great secular ideologies of the 19th and early 20th centuries — from Marxism to Freudianism — have faded, this spirit-filled version of Christianity has flourished, with political implications.
Both articles cited the Forum’s 10-country survey of pentecostals and charismatics, released in October. Since then, the Forum has added several supplemental reports, including historical overviews of pentecostalism in Latin America, Africa and Asia.
