The figures are relevant because Muslims have been the target of toughening anti-immigration legislation in recent years. The Cabinet is particularly working to reduce the number Turkish and Moroccans moving here to join their partners.

Chicago Tribune: A rare look at secretive Brotherhood in America
“Muslims divided on Brotherhood
A group aiming to create Islamic states worldwide has established roots here, in large part under the guidance of Egypt-born Ahmed Elkadi
By Noreen S. Ahmed-Ullah, Sam Roe and Laurie Cohen
Tribune staff reporters
September 19, 2004
Over the last 40 years, small groups of devout Muslim men have gathered in homes in U.S. cities to pray, memorize the Koran and discuss events of the day.
But they also addressed their ultimate goal, one so controversial that it is a key reason they have operated in secrecy: to create Muslim states overseas and, they hope, someday in America as well.

“Alles moest in Algerije verdoken gebeuren.

The Blogging of the President: 2004
Well I had a piece here on Freemuslims.org, feeling sorry for 9/11 and so on. I had a funny feeling about it, the apologies I mean. Someone looked into it more deeper and found out they are a front group for the Republican party. Well, I like to say that also for Republican muslims it is not forbidden to apologize…;-), but the question is do they have to? Another thing, ok call me a cynic, who sincere is this before election (believe me, I would have said the same thing if they were democrats).

The crisis of universalism: America and radical Islam after 9/11 Fred Halliday - openDemocracy
“In a trenchant analysis of the post-9/11 world, Fred Halliday documents the two-sided assault both by the United States and its fundamentalist enemies on universal principles. Can citizens of the world retrieve a confident, humane politics from beneath the rubble?”
[…]
The crisis of universalism, the weakness of the traditional nation-states, and the militarised character of world politics today, together mean that the major issues already confronting the world before 9/11, none of which have become easier since then, are being increasingly neglected. The existence of specific transnational problems like the spread of HIV/Aids and narco-trafficking is sufficient evidence of this. Moreover, none of the interethnic conflicts that fuel public support for Osama bin Laden have been resolved, most notably the Palestine question.
The most important of all these issues is the profound inequality in global conditions of wealth and life between the rich elites of the OECD states and the rest of the world. This polarisation lies at the heart of the pressure to migrate to the richer states of the world, of the corrupt character of many states, and of the rising world resentment of the west, and especially of the United States. “

African Studies Centre - CONFLICT IN SUDAN: THE CASE OF DARFUR
The Library, Documentation and Information Department of the African Studies Centre Leiden has compiled a web dossier on conflict in Sudan, and especially Darfur, to coincide with a workshop held at the ASC on 10 September 2004. The workshop brought together scholars involved in African Studies and journalists with a special interest in Africa in order to exchange ideas on information gathering and media coverage of African issues, in particular conflicts and war. The current crisis in Darfur was
discussed as an example. The dossier aims to give background information on the Darfur crisis within the context of the wider conflict in Sudan. It contains a selection of titles from the ASC library’s online catalogue on Darfur, the conflict in Sudan, and media coverage of conflicts in Africa in general, covering monographs as well as articles and chapters from edited works. The dossier further contains an introduction on the Darfur crisis and links to selected web resources.

The woman, a traffic officer identified only as Nora C., refused an order on August 25 to take off a small headscarf that she wears under her uniform cap, the union said, confirming a report in the newsmagazine L’Express.”
