Pilgrim Killed in Bus Crash

MADINAH, 11 January 2005 � One pilgrim was killed and 33 were injured, nine of them seriously, in a bus accident on Hijra road between Makkah and Madinah. The accident occurred when one of the rear tires of the bus burst.
The bus was carrying 38 pilgrims of Dutch and Arab nationalities. The bus had covered 190 kilometers when the accident occurred.
Teams from the fire department, police and civil defense rushed to the scene and transferred the injured pilgrims to health centers and King Fahd Hospital in Madinah.
Maleka Abdul Aziz, a Dutch national of Moroccan origin in her 30s, died as a result of her injuries.
Madinah Governor Prince Muqrin ibn Abdul Aziz, who is also president of the Haj Committee in Madinah, visited the injured victims at King Fahd Hospital. He urged the hospital staff to take extra care of the inured pilgrims. Most of the injured pilgrims are expected to recover and leave the hospital soon.
