COLOMBO, Jan 10: God signed His name in the tsunami that battered Sri Lanka and other countries on Dec 26, and sent it as punishment because humans have been ignoring His laws, Sri Lankan Muslims say.
Proof, according to Mohamed Faizeen, manager of the Centre for Islamic Studies in Colombo, is a satellite picture taken seconds after the tsunami smashed into Sri Lanka’s west coast near the town of Kalutara and as it was receding.
“This clearly spells out the name ‘Allah’ in Arabic,” Mr Faizeen said, pointing to the shape of the waves – a gigantic “E” complete with whorls and side waves that do indeed appear to combine to resemble the Arabic script for the name “Allah”.

The picture was taken by the Digital Globe Quick bird satellite on Dec 26 at 10.20am local time, shortly after the moment of tsunami impact. It can be viewed at the website, http://globalsecurity.org/eye/andaman-sri-lanka.htm.
“Allah signed His name,” Mr Faizeen said. “He sent it as punishment. This comes from ignoring His laws.” He likened the tsunami to the Old Testament account of floods being sent by God in the time of Noah as punishment for those who had drifted from His ways.
Like Noah, who according to the Bible was saved when he built an ark and tried to warn people to prepare for the deluge, a foreign tourist in Sri Lanka’s east coast village of Ulva had dreams on three consecutive nights that huge waves were coming.
“He warned the villagers but they laughed at him. He left Ulvae on that Sunday morning – 15 minutes before the tsunami struck,” Mr Faizeen said, citing locals who have woefully recounted the story.
He added that he had visited the mainly Muslim Ulvae, near the major town of Batticaloa, and found that a madrassa – an Islamic religious school – had been left untouched while 400 houses around it had been flattened with great loss of life.
The shorelines of many Asian countries hit by the waves – including Indonesia – had become playgrounds for Westerners and errant Muslims. Vices such as prostitution and drinking were rife, the cleric said.
“Allah first sends small punishments – like loss of business. If we ignore the warning, He sends bigger ones – loss of life. If we still ignore the warnings, the big punishments, like earthquakes and tsunamis will come.”
Mr Faizeen said areas of Sri Lanka mainly populated by Muslims were the hardest hit and that the waves were aimed at Muslims in Indonesia and Sri Lanka who he said had strayed from God’s ways.
Sri Lanka is around 70 per cent Buddhist, 15 per cent Hindu, 7.5 per cent Muslim and 7.5 per cent Christian. Another Muslim leader, Mohammed Fawmey of the International Islamic Youth Front, said he too believed the tsunami was sent by God. -AFP
the re is no resemblance of the satellite foto to the name
Allah in arabic unless you have a wild imagination. What about
all the humongous earth-quakes on the outer planets, was allah
trying to punish someone on say ganymede which has active volca
nic activity. Allah must be mad at the sanctimonious muslims in
sumatra then? Stupid Christian right wingers say the same thing
– about God being angry when hurrican pummeled florida, they
forgot theere were babies and children killed in the catastrophe
-e..if so then this God is truly wicked to kill innocent babies
too. The earth was made of one supercontinent pangea billions
of yrs ago, and they moved apart and are now moving back toge-
ther, and those who happen to live near the fault lines get aff-
ected. Volcanos erupt in hawaii and the hawaiians get hurt if
they live too near to the mountain, but with destruction comes
birth of new land and island. Mother earth is a living organism-
Gaia – it would do us well to respect and care for her then to
ascribe all calamities to a blood-thirsty male God.
Thanks, Kim. I do not notice a favorable image of the [after] effect within the photos. I may be doing something wrong. As for “blaming” God for this event, I replied to a Muslim site which placed emphasis on the “still-standing” mosques. I asked IF Allah loved buildings, such as any mosque, MORE than Allah loved the 1000’s of people who died. I’m still waiting for an answer.

Assalamualaikum.wr.wb.
I’m from Indonesia. I want to comment something about what happen in my country, you know, tsunami and earthquake. Many people say that tsunami in Aceh is a punishment for moslem. Well, I totally disagree with that. Because I have my own opinion.
First, tsunami is natural disaster. Plate tectonics moved and crash and made terrible disaster. It happen every year in Japan, and it is the first time in Indonesia. We just didn’t know and never prepare for it.
Second, many people death doesn’t mean that God hate you. It’s called destiny, faith, meant to be. We, moslems in Indonesia, knew it very well.
Third, have you ever heard about the end of the day ? It’s very scary moment, I never wanna face it. I think tsunami is one of the sign of the end of the day. I think Allah wanna save many moslem by taking them, so they don’t have to see the end of the day, because it’s so terrible.
And for every moslem in the world, don’t worry. Losing family, money, and all the world things (car, house, etc.) is better than losing faith to Allah. We are gratefull that Allah save our faith untill now. Because faithfull is all we want and need. Alhamdulillah. Keep istiqomah !!!
Wassalam.
tO WICKY ABOVE I WOULD ask the following questions. How do you know that all the poeple that Allah took during the tsunami are good people destined for paradise, maybe 50% are wicked people destined for jahanam/hell…then that will be worse than the end of days. Also many muslims believe that the wicked will burn for ever and ever in hades/hell..that is worse than end of days. The problem i see is that many religious people tend to blame God for everything that happens in the natural world. I think that is a simplistic mode of thinking.
Here is something to think about. I have a friend who is a shrimper and he says that hurricane is good for him , because it is nature’s way to stir up the ocean and refresh the deep waters and allow for better breeding of shrimp so that he gets a bumper crop the next year. So to him God is doing a good thing to increase his profits, but for another person whose son has died in the same hurricane …to him that could be a punishment from God…so you see it is relative.
