Dutch politicians and other prominent citizens have participated in a video protesting against the ongoing Israeli practice of administrative detention of Palestinian civilians.
An interesting report on Al Jazeera, featuring Moroccan-Dutch Muslim in has battle against young men (and some women) and their practices of dragging women into prostitution. Wijbenga recognizes there is a risk of racialising sexual crimes but nevertheless feels it to be his duty to raise awareness about the problem and to involve Islamic organizations in his work.
Last week several Muslims were arrested in Germany after riots during a protest against a demonstration of the German radical right wing party PRO-NRW. During the election campaign for the regional elections in Nord-Rhein Westfalen, PRO NRW organized a demonstration nearby a Salafist mosque in Solingen whereby the demonstrators showed the Muhammad Cartoons.During their counter-protests the Salafists, according to the reports, attacked police and injured four of them.
Dawah is de islamitische ‘uitnodiging tot het geloof’. Oftewel zending en missiewerk vanuit de islam. De EO zond een reportage uit over Straat-Dawah; een club jonge moslims die onder meer zending verrichtte op Urk. Zowel de EO als Straat-Dawah werken hier vanuit een specifiek religieus-sociaal engagement en morele ambitie.

In the case of Brussels and France people quickly pointed out that the perpetrators were salafists as a synonym for radical Muslims and Islam. The dichotomy between liberal Islam and radical Islam therefore emphasizes the need for reform in Islam, but in practice actually prevents that. The unreflected, taken for granted use of the label salafism says more about current society and politics in Europe than about Islam and Muslims and mainly serves the political elite.

Enkele weken geleden nodigde de Islamitische Studentenvereniging Amsterdam de Brits-Palestijnse prediker en islamitisch schriftgeleerde Haitham Al-Haddad uit voor een lezing. Dat leidde tot de nodige commotie en de Vrije Universiteit verbood zijn bezoek. Daarna volgde een debat met hem in De Balie met onder meer Tofik Dibi. Hier een overzicht van de commotie en het debat.
Via MuslimMediaWatch (if that site still does not belong to your favorites…shame on you) I found this interesting video rant by a Muslim woman about comparing Muslim women to objects such as pearls.
