An anthropology of Muslims in Europe - A modest attempt by Martijn
Gisteren hield ik een lezing voor het publiekssymposium ‘Godsdienst onder druk’. In deze lezing ging ik in op verschuivingen in paradigma’s die we kunnen aantreffen in politiek, beleid en media en die betrekking hebben op migratie en het management van religie en in het bijzonder van moslims in Nederland. Deze paradigmaverschuivingen kunnen we analyseren met behulp van het begrip islamofobie.

Allochtonen en autochtonen bestaan niet, ze worden gemaakt. Met alle goede bedoelingen hebben we met het begrippenpaar autochtoon-allochtoon een raciaal vertoog op basis van bloedverwantschap vervangen door een vertoog gebaseerd op cultuur en grond. Pinto stelt hier een ideaalbeeld van de Nederlandse samenleving tegenover alle mogelijk negatieve stereotyperingen van de allochtoon. Het is wensdenken wat Pinto hier doet. Ja, het is heel erg met die allochtonen. En ‘wij’ zijn dus echt superieur ten opzichte van die pre-moderne horden. Niet de slechte integratie van allochtone jongeren is het probleem; figuren als Pinto zijn onderdeel van het probleem.
