Het SCP heeft een nieuw rapport uitgebracht: moslim in nederland 2012 geschreven door dr. Mieke Maliepaard en dr. Mérove Gijsberts. Het richt zich op de religieuze beleving van verschillende moslimgroepen in Nederland. De studie wil laten zien wat voor hen de betekenis is van de islam en hoe de religieuze participatie en beleving zich ontwikkelt. Met een kritische reflectie van Joep de Hart en Martijn de Koning.
Tanya Luhrmann is concerned with the social construction of psychological experiences and how people experience their world. Her recent project compares the experience of hearing distressing voices in India, Ghana and in the United States.
De redactie van het Tijdschrift voor Theologie heeft mij gevraagd een reviewessay te schrijven over het thema Islam in Europa. Dat is verschenen in het septembernummer.

On Friday the 21st of September 2012 the anthropological department of the VU University in Amsterdam, in cooperation with the Radboud University of Nijmegen organizes a one-day symposium on the ‘aesthetics of religious leadership’.
The research group ‘Living Islam’ at the University of Amsterdam focuses on artistic performances, popular music, and new styles of dress. On August 30, they present some of the outcomes of this research in a Public Seminar on Muslim Cultural Production in Europe.
This is an interesting video and very useful for teaching purposes by Lisa Wade and Gwen Sharp of Sociologcial Images. They explain in a very concrete way the idea of social construction; a concept that refers to how people giving to the world.

It has been a very rewarding two weeks in England. After participating in a seminar on Monday 11 June I stayed for two more weeks. I wanted to do a follow up on my last visit to London, Birmingham and Leicester when I spoke with Muslims from the Netherlands who migrated to these cities.
