Nederland kent geen shariarechtbanken, zo blijkt uit onderzoek van de Radboud Universiteit Nijmegen in opdracht van het Wetenschappelijk Onderzoek- en Documentatiecentrum (WODC) van het ministerie van Justitie. Vanwege de etnische en religieuze diversiteit onder Nederlandse moslimgroepen is het bestaan van een officieel rechtsprekend instituut voor alle moslims in Nederland ook niet goed voorstelbaar. Het onderzoek is door de ministers Hirsch Ballin en Middelkoop (Wonen, Wijken en Integratie) met een kabinetsreactie naar de Tweede Kamer gestuurd. Commotie over de komst van een FIOE congres in mei vanwege vermeende banden met de moslimbroederschap en islamgeleerde Yusuf Qaradawi. Die laatste wordt voortdurend in verband gebracht met zijn goedkeuring van zelfmoordaanslagen. Waar komt die commotie over zelfmoordaanslagen eigenlijk vandaan en wat is precies het standpunt van Qaradawi en hoe valt dat te plaatsen in discussies over zelfmoordaanslagen en jihad?
Dames van het koor Al Wahda hebben een filmpje gemaakt waarin opgeroepen wordt tot solidariteit met vrouwen met een hoofddoek. Daarnaast bevat het een pleidooi voor empowerment op basis van de islam die de vrouw, in tegenstelling tot gangbare vooroordelen, wel degelijk rechten, vrijheden en mogelijkheden tot ontplooiing zou geven.

But the ensuing conflict shows how the freedom of speech has become a disciplining frame and the repeated publishing of the cartoons after complaints against it by Muslims, can be seen as an attempt to teach those Muslims who is boss here. A conflict such as this reveals the moral underpinnings of dealing with religious feelings and of secularist and believers going public in a time of islamophobia combined with the rise of religious movements that do not without conditions surrender to the secular truce.

The book defines Human Security as a multidimensional and dynamic conceptual lens which allows us to link these various dimensions – superficially classified as physical and existential security – with one another in order to achieve a richer, more complex and more compelling analysis. If cultural and religious dimensions are left out of the equation, then a Human Security analysis is bound to be incomplete, theoretically barren, and politically irrelevant.
Wilders is showing his movie Fitna (chaos, strive) today in the House of Lords in the UK (see HERE for a critique) signalling his belief that Islam is a danger to a stable tolerant country. The real fitna however is already apparent in the Netherlands. The local elections to do not present the breakthrough of an intolerant ideology; that already happened. It is not a breakthrough for xenophobia and islamophobia, but xenophobia and islamophobia that has become acceptable and moreover a reason to vote. Not a breakthrough washing away political opposition but a deadlock situation making the country difficult to rule for left and right. Not a breakthrough but a result that puts the myth of tolerance into perspective.
