International Crisis Group – Getting the UN Into Darfur

The ICG has written a report about the UN and Darfur:

The impasse over deploying a major UN peacekeeping force to Darfur results directly from the international community’s three-year failure to apply effective diplomatic and economic pressure on Sudan’s government and its senior officials. Unless concerted action is taken against the ruling National Congress Party (NCP), Khartoum will continue its military campaign, with deadly consequences for civilians, while paying only lip service to its many promises to disarm its Janjaweed militias and otherwise cooperate. No one can guarantee what will work with a regime as tough-minded and inscrutable as Sudan’s, but patient diplomacy and trust in Khartoum’s good faith has been a patent failure. The international community has accepted the responsibility to protect civilians from atrocity crimes when their own government is unable or unwilling to do so. This now requires tough new measures to concentrate minds and change policies in Khartoum.

Het ondertoontje en de gedachtenpolitie

Als je onderzoek doet naar moslims in Nederland en dan ook nog eens een blog bijhoudt, dan lijken mensen soms te verwachten dat je stelling neemt tegen of voor dees of gene. Als je dat niet doet, ook goed (nou ja meestal) maar dan moet je er rekening meehouden dat bezoekers dat zelf wel doen. Er wordt dan meestal tussen de regels door gezocht naar wat je eigenlijk bedoelde, zeg maar wat je eigenlijk in gedachten had toen je iets opschreef.

Zo schreef ene Frans Groenendijk over deze entry (één na laatste quote van onderen is afkomstig van zijn weblog) over de Paus en zijn uitspraken:

Hij schreef er over met een ondertoontje van “kijk nu toch eens wat al die in zwart-wit termen denkende mensen allemaal schrijven over de islam” maar in zijn haast om de mohammedanen (de volgelingen van die akelige man dus – niet iedereen die zichzelf moslim noemt) gelijk te geven schrijft hij zelf over de “domme, beledigende en inaccurate boodschap van de paus”. Met neerbuigend afgeven op Ratzinger is blijkbaar niets mis!

Frans haalt dus een ondertoontje uit mijn post en oefent op basis daarvan kritiek uit. Uit dat ondertoontje zou klaarblijkelijk afgeleid kunnen worden dat ik eigenlijk dacht dat moslims (welke dan?) gelijk hadden. Zeg maar een soort gedachtenpolitie.
