DEN HAAG, 2 SEPT. Het kabinet komt binnenkort met voorstellen om toegelaten immigranten gefaseerd toegang te geven tot de sociale zekerheid. Dat heeft minister-president Balkenende vanmorgen gezegd in de Tweede Kamer.

Do we need assimilation then? I don’t think so, integration is not even necessary but oops that’s another discussion. Liberalism turns to xenophobia when assimilation fails, that’s the main thesis of this article. It could well be an answer to the question why even fierce multiculturalists have turned to be protagonists of assimilation politics.

A U.S. federal appeals court has upheld a lower court ruling that bible classes in public schools are unconstitutional. The ruling concerned public school bible classes in Rhea County, Tennessee, home of the 1920s Scopes Monkey Trial. A second story reports that another federal appeals court has upheld a lower court ruling that a cross in the Mojave National Preserve is unconstitutional.
