A world of insecurity: Anthropological perspectives on human security, a collection of essays edited by Thomas Hylland Eriksen, Ellen Bal and Oscar Salemink. The book defines Human Security as a multidimensional and dynamic conceptual lens which allows us to link these various dimensions – superficially classified as physical and existential security – with one another in order to achieve a richer, more complex and more compelling analysis. If cultural and religious dimensions are left out of the equation, then a Human Security analysis is bound to be incomplete, theoretically barren, and politically irrelevant.

Migrantenstudies is het enige Nederlandstalige wetenschappelijke tijdschrift voor onderzoek naar migratie, etnische minderheden en de Nederlandse samenleving. Tal van onderwerpen komen aan bod zoals huisvesting, gezondheidszorg, onderwijs, arbeidsmarkt, politieke participatie, discriminatie en identiteit. Het eerste nummer van dit jaar (dat sinds kort online staat) is een thema-nummer over identificatie van migrantenjongeren.

Behalve het nodige inkomende verkeer van een porno site kwam mijn stuk over seksualisering en pornoficatie ook onder de aandacht van veel Geenstijl lezers door een email van mij aan de redactie van GS. Aangezien ik mijn lezers en reaguurders een stuk serieuzer neem dan GS, heb ik beloofd in te gaan op de reacties door enkele vragen te beantwoorden. Gaat u er even goed voor zitten, want het is een lang stuk (met veel citaten).

Netwerk had een interessante reportage over de wijk Zuilen samen met blogger Bert Brussen die een ‘Zuilens dagboek’ bijhoudt. Weliswaar met nauwelijks duiding, maar door de schrijfstijl en de treffende Netwerk-reportage (waarin ook de verloedering van de wijk zelf en de segregatie redelijk tot uiting komen) veel inzichtelijker dan veel andere stukjes over ‘hoe erg het toch allemaal is’.
