Marcel Mring: Het idee van je leven. De wanhopige vraag naar het waarom.

Marcel Mring

Arab Academics on 9/11: from conspiracy theory to an appeal on soul searching

Arab Academics Still Claim 9/11 Was American Conspiracy — 09/10/2004

“Academics and others in the Arab and Muslim world continue to circulate conspiracy theories that blame the U.S. and/or Israel for the 2001 terrorist attacks on America.”
[…]
But there are some moderate voices in the Arab world like Sheik Abd Al-Hamid Al-Ansari, former dean of faculty of Shari’a at the University of Qatar, who have encouraged Muslims to engage in some soul-searching.

“Why won’t we [Arabs] take the opportunity of the appearance of the September 11 commission’s report to ponder why destructive violence and a culture of destruction have taken root in our society?” Al-Ansari wrote in the London based Arabic daily Al-Hayat on August 2.”

International terrorism as an optical illusion?

The link below refers to a pdf-file (in dutch).

International Terrorism by prof. dr. Rik Coolsaet and Teun van de Voorde (Gent
University)

Walter Laqueur, author of “Terrorism” (1977) notes in 1985: “[Historians] will note that presidents and other leaders frequently referred to terrorism as one of the greatest dangers facing mankind. For days and weeks on end, television networks devoted most of their prime-time news to covering terrorist operations. Publicists referred to terrorism as the cancer of the world, growing inexorably until it poisoned and engulfed the society on which it fed. [] In countless articles and books, our historian will read about the constantly rising number of terrorist attacks. Being a conscientious researcher he will analyse
the statistics, which are bound to increase his confusion, for he will find that more American
civilians were killed in 1974 (22) than in 1984 (16). (Laqueur, Walter, Reflections on Terrorism. In: Foreign Affairs, Fall 1986, Vol. 65, nr. 1, pp. 86-100)

Categories: Misc. News.

Besides the ‘normal’ 9/11 remembrance, their are also some holy feasts today. One of them is Milad un Nabi; the birth of the prophet Muhammed.
BBC – Religion & Ethics – Milad un Nabi

The other one is Paryushana, a time of reflection and repentance for the Jain devotee.

And not to forget the Ethiopian new year for the Rastafarians (and others of course).

“On September 11, 1990, more than a decade before the fatal 2001 terrorist attacks on the U.S., then-president George M. Bush (“W”s father) delivered a ringing speech to a joint meeting of Congress. Today [a] new world is struggling to be born, he said, A world where the strong respect the rights of the weak.

The occasion? Saddam Hussein had just invaded Kuwait. “

Strangers: Muslims Living Outside Dar-Ul-Islam: Rights And Obligations

Home / Headlines / Strangers: Muslims Living Outside Dar-Ul-Islam: Rights And Obligations – Media Monitors Network (MMN)

“Traditionally we find that the world was grossly seen as consisting of three realms, the Drul-Islm, “Realm of Islam where Islamic norms and values are valid so that a Muslim can feel safe and at home even though he is not yet familiar with the language and culture; Drul-Harb, the “Realm of War” where a hostile attitude against Muslims is to be expected; and Drus-Sulh, the “Realm of a Legal Order or Peace” where a public order is prevalent in which Muslims can find a safe place. Traditional models for these three cases would be Madina, Makkah and Abyssinia, respectively, during the early period of Islam. We can clearly see that these terms need a careful general revision both on the background of the principles proposed in Qur’an and Sunnah and considering the modern world.”
