Is ten eerste vast gesteld of men moslim is? M.a.w. of men praktiserend is?
Ten tweede waar praten we nu over?

TIME.com: Inside the Mind of an Iraqi Suicide Bomber
One day soon, this somber young man plans to offer up a final prayer and then blow himself up along with as many U.S. or Iraqi soldiers as he can reach. Marwan Abu Ubeida says he has been training for months to carry out a suicide mission. He doesn’t know when or where he will be ordered to climb into a bomb-laden vehicle or strap on an explosives-filled vest but says he is eager for the moment to come. While he waits, he spends much of his time rehearsing that last prayer. “First I will ask Allah to bless my mission with a high rate of casualties among the Americans,” he says, speaking softly in a matter-of-fact monotone, as if dictating a shopping list. “Then I will ask him to purify my soul so I am fit to see him, and I will ask to see my mujahedin brothers who are already with him.” He pauses to run the list through his mind again, then resumes: “The most important thing is that he should let me kill many Americans.”
During a three-hour interview, he talked freely of his motivations but did not divulge any specifics about a prospective strike. He seemed articulate and candid, though he insisted on being photographed wearing a mask over his face to conceal his identity and chose a pseudonym, using the common Iraqi name Marwan and a historical one, that of Abu Ubeida al-Jarrah, a 7th century general who conquered Syria for Islam. The sincerity of his desire to make himself a “martyr” was attested to by several figures– a member of his organization, al-Qaeda in Iraq; a Baghdad-area commander of an insurgent unit that provides logistical support for al-Qaeda bombers; and a Sunni imam who is sometimes brought in to counsel bombers during their premission spiritual “purification”–whom TIME consulted through Iraqis with contacts inside the insurgency. His account provides a rare glimpse into the mind-set and preparation of one aspiring suicide bomber.
Marwan’s journey toward suicide murderer began just a few weeks after the fall of Saddam Hussein. Before the war, he had been one of Fallujah’s privileged young men: his father’s successful business earned enough–even during the difficult years when the West imposed economic sanctions on Iraq–to provide a good life for Marwan and his six brothers and four sisters. In high school, he was an average student but excelled in Koranic studies at the local mosque.
Unlike many other Sunnis in Fallujah, Marwan had little love for Saddam’s Sunni-led regime. Yet once the dictator fell, he turned against the Americans. “We expected them to bring Saddam down and then leave,” he says. “But they stayed and stayed.” Insurgents approached disaffected Fallujis like Marwan and urged them to join the resistance against the Americans. Many signed up, including one of Marwan’s older brothers.
Like other Iraqis who have joined extremist religious groups during the insurgency, Marwan severed connections with his family when he joined up. He says he will call them once before his suicide mission to say goodbye. Even though one of his brothers fights for another insurgent group and other siblings help the rebels with money and shelter, he says they all believe he has gone too far. “My family are not happy with my choice,” he says. “But they know they can’t change my path.”
Besides the Koran, he says, “I read about the history of jihad, about great martyrs who have gone before me. These things strengthen my will.” One popular source of inspiration for suicide bombers is The Lover of Angels, by Abdullah Azzam, one of Osama bin Laden’s spiritual mentors, which tells stories of jihadis who died fighting Soviet occupying troops in Afghanistan. And Marwan is listening to taped speeches that address subjects like the rewards that await warriors in heaven. In recent months, jihadist groups have also begun showing recruits lurid videos of successful suicide hits. A U.S. official in Baghdad who studies suicide terrorism says some volunteers even visit the sites of previous bombings for inspiration.

In the Telegraph: ‘My dream was to be a suicide bomber. I wanted to kill 20, 50 Jews. Yes, even babies’
A touching story by Manuela Dviri a journalist, playwright and writer whose son, Jonathan, was killed by a Hizbollah rocket seven years ago. She received the 2005 Peres Reward for Peace and Reconciliation for her involvement with Saving Children, an Israeli-Palestinian project which refers Palestinian children to Israeli hospitals for free treatment.
They are here, and still alive, because they changed their minds at the last moment, because they were arrested, or because, like Wafa, they did not succeed. They are kept in a kind of labyrinth, behind seven, or perhaps eight, iron doors and gates, at the end of long corridors to which few people are allowed access, and which are reached after climbing and descending one flight of stairs after another.
Their unarmed guard, a young, calm-looking blonde woman, calls them her “girls”. “There are 30 of them, between 17 and 30 years old, some of them are married and others aren’t, some of them have children,” she told me. “Their stories come out of the Thousand and One Nights. Some of them did it to make amends for a relative who was a collaborator, others to escape becoming victims of honour killings, and for the psychologically frail or depressed it was a good way to commit suicide and at the same time become ‘heroines’. Personally, I don’t judge them or hate them, because if I did I wouldn’t be able to look after them any more.”
One question has bothered me since my visit to that prison. The parents and the relatives of these failed martyrs, what happens to them afterwards? What do they feel after the tragedy, with that knowledge? I decided that I would ask Wafa’s father, Samir al-Biss. Samir is the owner of a tiny, shabby grocery shop. For many years, before the intifada, he worked as a day labourer in Israel. After the initial shock of his daughter’s martyrdom mission, he disconnected the telephone and now will not speak directly to anyone.
He has, however, allowed Wael, Wafa’s cousin, to answer on his behalf. “Wafa’s father is still in a state of shock,” Wael said. “He wishes to say that he can’t bring himself to believe that his daughter was going to blow herself up. He believes that she was put up to it and exploited by someone and that it’s not fair that the whole Palestinian population should be punished for what she has tried to do. The Palestinians don’t have to pay for her act,” he added sadly.
I tend to agree with him. Neither the Palestinian people nor the Israelis should have to pay for the fanatical acts of their extremists.

BBC NEWS | UK | Terror arrest ‘link’ to killing
A man wanted in the Netherlands for terrorist-related offences has been accused of links to a group suspected of killing film-maker Theo van Gogh.
Racid Belkacem appeared at Bow Street Magistrates’ Court following his arrest in London on the back of an extradition request from the Dutch authorities.
Prosecutors alleged the 32 year-old Dutch national “maintained contact” with members of Hofstad group.
He was remanded in custody ahead of a further hearing on 1 July.
Mr Van Gogh, 47, was shot and stabbed to death in Amsterdam in November last year.
He had received death threats after making the film Submission which accused Islam of promoting violence against women.
Computer files
Mr Belkacem was held by officers from Scotland Yard’s extradition unit in a street in Whitechapel, east London, on Wednesday. He had arrived in the UK in January.
Police said the alleged offences against him involve firearms, forged documentation and terrorist-related recruitment.
Rosemary Fernandes, who detailed the allegations against Mr Belkacem in court, said computer files were found at his house in the Netherlands suggesting “the recruitment of persons for the Jihad”.
She said the authorities also discovered live ammunition and a blank-firing gun which could have been converted to take real bullets.
His lawyer, Mark Summers, indicated the defence would seek to challenge the validity of the extradition warrant.

Young Dutch Muslims Take the Lead
We need to remain Muslims and at the same time respect the other’s religion, race and color, said Budak.
By Nasreddine Djebbi, IOL Correspondent
ROTTERDAM, June 15, 2005 (IslamOnline.net) Young Dutch Muslims are now taking the lead from older generations and are qualified enough to steer the minority’s integration drive.
Young Dutch Muslims better understand the nature of society as they master the native language and are fully aware of its culture and laws, Zekerya Budak, a young Muslim activist, told IslamOnline.net.

Sometimes people come up with things that are too bizarre. Crazy, but serious, ideas from politicians or whoever, that we should bury deep in the woods, or in the Nick Cave’s words:
Love is for fools and all fools are lovers
It’s raining on my house and none of the others
Love is for fools and God knows I’m still one
The sidewalks are filled with love’s lonely children
The sidewalk regrets that we had to kill them.
I came up with idea after reading the news on the ‘Allochtonen-playforest’; a project designed to increase the number of migrants visiting woods….the can play, cheer whatever? Great isn’t it? No it isn’t? Who comes up with ideas like that? It is insulting for migrants and if you want the xenohopia among native Dutch people, this ridiculous idea is exactly what is needed (and because of the insulting character of this idea I don’t think migrants will think well that is nice of our native dutch fellow citizens…). So please let’s bring this idea deep in the woods and bury it there.

IRAQ: INSURGENTS’ HOLY WAR MAP ON INTERNET
Baghdad, 16 June (AKI) – Muslim militants seeking to join the fighting in Iraq against the US-led coalition forces and their Iraqi government allies can now choose the best route to smuggle themselves into the country, simply by following detailed instructions available on the Internet. “The central border area between Syria’s Dir al-Zur province and Iraq’s al-Anbar province is the entry point most used by the mujahadeen,” says part of a lengthy message, posted on the Islamic “Firdaws” forum on the Internet. The message, entitled “The way towards the country of the two rivers,” a reference to Iraq and the two main rivers flowing through the country – the Tigris and the Euphrates – is signed by someone called al-Muhjhir al-Islami. It bears some resemblance to another message Adnkronos International (AKI) found on the site on 7 June, and may have been compiled by the same author.

One of the major questions among Muslims is: Who has the right to issue a fatwa, and over what? This article from Cairo Magazine – When the religious gets political
goes into this important issue focusing on Al-Azhar.
In recent years, there has been a growing trend of unofficial fatwas being announced on state TV, satellite channels radio, newspapers and in mosques. For instance, earlier this year fatwas were issued banning yoga and ironing womens pantsthe latter because, according to the man who issued that fatwa, women are not allowed to wear pants in Islam.
Confusing the dispute is the lack of clear hierarchy between Al Azhar and Dar Al Iftaa, which is technically under Al Azhars jurisdiction yet supposed to be the sole source of fatwas. This has caused problem before. For instance, in January 2004, after Al Tantawi urged French Muslims to respect the ban on veils in public schools, Gomaa argued that the veil was an obligation for Muslims. Other religious scholars around the world also condemned Al Tantawis position.
Aboul Ela says the way people perceive fatwas has changed from the way they were perceived earlier in Islam’s history. “After the death of the Prophet Muhammed, Muslim scholars used fatwas to adapt to the changes of everyday life, because there are issues that are not mentioned in the Quran or the Sunna,†he explained. “Now people go and seek fatwas even if the issues are already mentioned in the Quran and are not debatable. The sheikhs don’t see how dangerous it is to issue a wrong fatwa.â€

Well sometimes articles seem funny and interesting at the same time. This is one of them: alt.muslim – Star Wars: An Islamic Perspective by Irfan Rydhan
As most “Star Wars” fans know, director George Lucas took spiritual elements, which are common in most major world religions to create his epic saga of good vs. evil. As a Muslim, I always thought of the “Jedi” as what a true follower of Islam should be like. Never mind the fact Jedi masters with their North African style cloaks and scruffy beards look like Sufi Sheikhs, but they way they are taught to respect a greater power, fight for the defense of the innocent and honor a code of morals and ethics in order to bring about peace and justice to their society, is basically what Islam teaches all Muslims to strive for. So what really is the connection between these similar Islamic principles and the fictional “Jedi Order” of the Star Wars saga?
His conclusion (but read the whole article you lazy…):
From my brief amount of research and study into the “Star Wars” saga, I found many examples connecting the ideals and principles of Islam to that of the fictional Jedi Order. Some of the similarities were clearly visible (as with the relations between the Jedi master, apprentice and the Force to that of the Sufi Sheikhs, students and worshipping of Allah), while others were a bit more hidden and surprising finds (such as the term “Jeddi” and “Palawan” for Muslim knights and the story of “al-Khidr” the green spiritual guru which has an uncanny resemblance to the Jedi Spiritual master “Yoda”)!
Even though Lucas himself is not a follower of any specific religion, he has used elements of Islam (as well as other world religions) to convey the universal understandings of good and evil. Combining that common thread of humanity with a futuristic space-age setting and exciting martial arts swordsmanship, came a creation that has inspired many, no matter their race, religion or culture. There is something about the “Star Wars” saga that everyone can relate to and enjoy. And I hope that those people who are searching for a “truth” within the mythology of “Star Wars”, will look a little deeper behind the fiction and find Al-Islam: A true way of life which emphasizes peace, justice and brotherhood for all humanity.
