Muslim-American Internet Site Aims at Wide Audience

“The Internet site MuslimWakeup.com is aimed at Muslims who embrace their heritage but reject a conservative vision of their religion. One of the founders of the web site says it caters to what he calls “progressive Muslims.”

It is irreverent and racy, with articles on sex and love poetry, and more serious matters like violence against women and presidential politics. It deals with humanitarian issues like the killings in the Darfur region of Sudan, and offers debates over U.S. policy on topics like immigration.”

In het Noord Brabantsmuseum een tentoonstelling over orientalisme. Ons beeld van het Nabije Oosten en de daarmee verbonden Arabische Wereld is al sinds de Middeleeuwen vertekend door gebrekkige informatie en eenzijdige waarnemingen. Een stroming die een belangrijke rol speelde in de totstandkoming van deze opvattingen en die er ook een getuigenis van vormde, is het Oriï¿½ntalisme. Deze Europese stroming uit de 19de eeuw heeft zijn sporen nagelaten in kunstwerken, gebruiksvoorwerpen, woninginrichting, literatuur en architectuur. In het voetspoor van met name Franse schrijvers en kunstenaars zochten tussen 1830 en 1930 ook Nederlandse kunstenaars inspiratie in Arabische culturen. Hun werk heeft het vertekende beeld van het Oosten versterkt. In hoeverre het Oriï¿½ntalisme van invloed is geweest op onze beeldvorming, is komend najaar te zien op de tentoonstelling Fata Morgana.

“Het filmpje Submission van het duo Hirsi Ali / Van Gogh dat gisteravond in Zomergasten was te zien (zie onder) toont vrouwenlichamen met Arabische teksten. Is dat wel zo origineel als gepretendeerd wordt?” Voor het antwoord volg de link en lees entry: de apen apen na. Je zou ook nog wel aan andere films kunnen denken zoals The Pillowbook (http://inkpot.com/film/pillowbook.html) en waarschijnlijk heeft ze goed gekeken naar de gesluierde (in navolging van de vagina) monologen. In Zomergasten met Ayaan Hirsi Ali de eerste vertoning van de film “Submission”, een film van Ayaan Hirsi Ali en filmmaker Theo van Gogh. Het gaat om een korte film van tien minuten waarin de meest vrouwonvriendelijke teksten uit de koran onder de aandacht worden gebracht. De film staat niet op de website van Zomergasten, maar wel de uitleg bij de film en de bijbehorende Koranverzen.

“Volgens Van Gogh gaat het om een “pamflet-achtige film”, waarin vier mishandelde vrouwen figureren die zijn afgebeeld in een doorschijnend gewaad, waarbij de borsten zichtbaar zijn. Op de lichamen is een aantal omstreden tekstfragmenten in het Arabisch gekalligrafeerd.

“Het draait allemaal om een dialoog met Allah”, aldus Van Gogh.” Gelijk nomineren voor de Oscars denk ik…ahum. Een dialoog met Allah of schelden naar Allah. Nou ik ben benieuwd.

Desinformatie bij radicaal rechts bij

Een knap staaltje vervalsing van een radicaal-rechtse anti-islam/anti migranten site: De Graverdammer. Zij suggeren een overzicht te geven op basis van ï¿½ï¿½n bron: Wikipedia. Nu is Wikipedia een betrouwbare bron (in tegenstelling tot de Grav.dmr) en wat daar staat, staat niet op Wikipedia. Een knap staaltje desinformatie. Wil je weten wat er wï¿½l staat:
http://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ottomaanse_Rijk is de juiste bron. Dat geven ze er overigens wel bij, maar niettemin geeft dit uitstekend aan wat er mis bij veel radicaal rechtse anti islam sites.

6Pack.tv kwam op het idee om eens met een burka rond te lopen en te peilen wat de reacties zijn. Niet erg diepgaand (had best wat meer willen weten over het gevoel van de persoon zelf met het dragen van zo’n burka) wel leuk om te zien. Ga naar Bente met Burka en kijk zelf

Ik ga niet ieder nieuwsbericht over onthoofdingen hier op zetten, maar deze was toch wel opmerkelijk:
“De Amerikaan, Benjamin Vanderford, zette de video naar eigen zeggen op het internet om aandacht te trekken en te laten zien hoe makkelijk dergelijke opnames te vervalsen zijn. ,,Het was een stunt”, aldus de 22-jarige Amerikaan. Hij maakte de opname in een huis bij San Francisco en gebruikte onder meer nepbloed en beelden van verminkte lichamen die hij van een website van de Palestijnse Hamas-beweging had gehaald.”
